idea and motivation

Learning information technology at school should be fun. Playing with freedroidz is fun. We want to use freedroidz to create an easy and affordable platform to learn programming at school. Creating robots and program them is an ideal learning approach for students of all ages. Mindstorm is cool, but for the most people it is still too expensive. Our long term target is to have a cheap controller, who speaks bluetooth, maybe wifi. You plug in cheap sensors and go! And all for 50 Dollars. You just need a Computer with bluetooth, a operating system and development plattform, all provided for free by the Open Source Community and the freedroidz team. And some sponsors;-).

We have a rough plan, lets call it roadmap. We would love to be ready at Linuxtag 2009.

• Preparing the freedroidz platform, creating tutorials (videos, examples)
• concept and evaluating of the hardware -> Alternate hardware
• creating a prototype
• checking hardware production options
• sponsored Pilot project with a class at school
• presentation of the first freedroidz study box
